Private Surf Lesson in Waikiki

Excellent Micah is a great teacher, he keeps it fun while being educational. While there are no guarantees in surfing, Micah will give it his best to have you catching waves in your first lesson. He knows everyone, and was cheering on all the other surfers (many of whom were former and/or current students) in the water throughout our lesson. Micah is a true local/ small business in Waikiki, I highly recommend his services. Cheers!!!

I'm going to start off with Micah is amazing! If you want to learn to surf the right way then Micah is your guy! I just started learning and this was my second lesson in the last two days (first was with someone else which I now regret). He coached me through the mistakes I was taught in the first lesson which was huge and made a big difference! I also really wanted to understand everything to be able to surf on my own soon. Micah took the time to teach me how to read the waves, the best places to be at the right times, and of course how to get up and enjoy the sport! I highly recommend Micah! I'll tell you now, you won't regret it at all!!!

10/10 RECOMMENDED! Mickey is so so so so NICE My husband had a great time learning with Mickey:)) He rode a wave by himself successfully at his first try and Mickey got some cool footage for him too. Unfortunately, my husband got seasick towards the end of the lesson (FYI, if you usually get seasick, take medicine 30min before the lesson) so Mickey took him back, went to the ABC store with me to get medicine and stayed with us until my husband got back on his feet. The entire time hanging out with Mickey was super fun. Give him a call if you want surfing lessons!

In Waikiki everyone I talk to seems to have a friend who is a surf instructor and I had been thinking about taking up surfing again but I was unsure due to my arthritis in left knee and right ankle and who would I take the lesson from? I had surfed many decades ago and saw this site and Micah had so many great reviews how could this many people be wrong. After a few weeks I finally had my lesson today. Micah is one of the nicest and most knowledgeable let alone one of the friendliest instructors you will ever meet. He is very patient, very helpful and if you're a beginner or have other mobility issues he figures the best way to get you to stand and for a moment gets you to feel like part of the surf community. I found that I need to work on my flexibility and technique but that will happen in time. Micah not only helps you get standing but he takes videos of you so you have proof even though if it's only for a few moments. Micah introduced me to some very nice people today and I can't wait to take my next lesson with him. For those of you who are interested in taking a lesson or 2 do yourself a favor and reach out to him, I mean you have tried the rest, now try the best. A big mahalo to Micah and all the nice people who I met out there..

You can't go wrong with booking with Mickey! Mickey is going to teach you how to become a surfer, not just get you standing up for a few cool photos (although he'll get you those too!). The price quoted is for a one on one lesson, not a group so you know you're getting individual attention. First, it's a safety factor if you're not a strong swimmer. Second, you get more opportunities to catch waves. I had taken one lesson elsewhere but Mickey taught me how to look for waves, where to stand on the board, and what it'll take for me to catch a wave on my own. Don't hesitate to ask "why" to get the most out of your lesson. I feel like a few lessons with Mickey will really set me up well to be able to practice on my own. Highly recommend Mickey!

Mickey should be at the top of your list for surfing instruction when you are visiting Waikiki. I am an experienced swimmer and snorkeler, and had always wanted to try surfing but was a bit intimidated. On a whim, I chose Mickey based on other Yelp reviews, and had an epic experience that I will always remember fondly. Like all good teachers, Mickey takes the time to get to know you, your comfort level, establishing rapport and sharing expertise. In my case, he figured out I like lots of details, so he gave lots of extra explanations and fun war stories as we were sitting out on the water waiting to catch the next wave. BY the end of my first-ever one hour lesson, I was able to stand up and surf a small wave thanks to Mickey's expert guidance. This guy exceeded my expectations on so many levels, and has my highest recommendation. Most surf instructors will not ride next to you throughout the lesson, whereas Mickey is right there the whole time and also filming GoPro video you can watch and enjoy later :) If you've always wanted to try surfing but wasn't sure how, give Mickey's Surf School a try, you will definitely not be disappointed!

This was my first time ever surfing. I had a superb experience with Mickey as my surf instructor. I was late to my lesson but he made sure there wasn't a fuss and worked around it to make sure I had ample time. Mickey is fun, knowledgeable, informative, safe, entertaining, and made me feel comfortable from beginning to end. Going in, I thought it would be a one-time great experience. But afterward, he had me wanting more. My 1-hour lesson turned into a 2-hour session. Highly recommend this spot if you're in Waikiki and a beginner. Thanks again Mickey, will be back soon!

Booked a lesson for my birthday and couldn't have been happier with my experience!! Micah/Mickey has got the greatest energy and puts you right at ease. He is incredibly knowledgeable and excellent at guiding and explaining, even sent videos to prep before your lesson, really makes sure he is setting you up for success. I've had a previous lesson elsewhere that I enjoyed, and this far surpassed that experience. Plus I now have video footage catching waves!! Amazing both for fun and to help improve my skills. Outstanding experience! Mickey has a welcoming energy and knowledgeable. He built my confidence and took me step by step. I was on the board my first lesson. Learned so much. Surfing has always been really scary for me...but something I've always wanted to learn. I dated a boy who shamed me for not being able to surf, so on my latest trip to Hawaii, I wanted to learn (whether or not this surfer boy stayed in my life!). Mickey was the best teacher I could ever ask for. He was truly the highlight of my Hawaii trip. Despite rough waves, he brought me out. Taught me the foundations of surfing. Gave me tips and tricks and prepared me prior and after with YouTube videos. I had FUN. He was cracking jokes the whole time and makes his students feel so comfortable and not fearful at all!! I felt so much more confident about my skills after my time with him. On TOP of that, he has a GoPro and sends you VIDEOS and images of you surfing that you get to take home immediately!! I sent them to all my friends and family :) I can't wait to go back to Hawaii just to surf with Mickey!!

Mickey is such a great surfer and teacher (and pro photographer)! It was my last day in Waikiki and this class made my Hawaii experience so memorable! I had a private session with Mickey for an hour in the afternoon of Dec 11. Mickey showed me the moves at first on the beach and we headed to the waves. It was my very first time of surfing and Mickey made this experience very fun, interactive and not tiring (with the magical paddle), so I got to become more interested in this sport.
