Group Surf Lesson in Waikiki

Mickey is the best instructor! After a lot of research, I booked a 90 min surf lesson with Mickey for my group, 4 adults. He spent a half an hour on the beach patiently explaining the mechanics of surfing to us and answered all our questions. Come to find out he didn't even start start the clock on the 90 mins yet! One person in our group was able to stand up her first time! We were all able to get up on our boards during our lesson. There was a storm two days prior to our lesson so the waves were a bit choppier but he kept a eye on all four of us and made sure we were safe. Mickey is warm and friendly and genuinely wants to share his surfing knowledge with everyone. He was even giving tips to other surfers. After getting out of the ocean, he gave us more advice and answered more of our questions. We spent a total of 2.5 hours with him. I can't recommend Mickey enough! He's everything you want in an instructor- knowledgeable, patient, friendly, and actually knows how to teach. Mahalo, Mickey!

Had a great experience with an hour long lesson from Mickey. Cost us $75 a person, and it was well worth it. Mickey showed us what we needed to know before hand, so that we could spend most of our time in the water. Everyone in our group was able to stand up and get a couple good runs in by the end of the lesson! Because our group was larger, Mickey brought an additional instructor that was just as attentive. Can't recommend enough! We all enjoyed our time and the GoPro videos taken!

Mickeys Surf School is the best! Mickey is so great with adults and kids. We had a group of 4 adults and 3 children, split into 2 groups. Mickey calmed our nerves, got us quickly into the water after building our confidence with efficient on-land training, and we all successful stood up on our board! Most of all, Mickey is friendly and great with children. We left calling him uncle Mickey throughout the whole trip. We all felt safe on the waters because of Mickey and we highly recommend everyone taking their surf lessons here. We can't wait to see uncle Mickey again on our next visit.

Absolutely the best !!! Super patient with our large group (several young ones 9year olds) and one who could not swim at all. We ALL caught waves Best day of our trip. Our kids still talk about it.

Living coastal SoCal all my life, everyone around me surfed. Always thought I was too old but when my daughter highly recommended Micah, I trusted him. So 4 of us senior gfs on a GIRLS TRIP signed up & literally "took the plunge" !! Micah took the time to make sure we had the correct basics before taking us out on the water. He even sent a video ahead of time to introduce the basic lessons to do before class. Photos & video are included & he provides a lockbox for small valuables, wallets & phones. Micah was an EXCELLENT instructor & was very patient with us!! He gave me the confidence to try surfing on my own without waiting for him. It helps to have strong arms & be in good physical shape. I need to work on that! I will definitely return to Micah for private lessons each time I come to HNL. I highly recommend his private lessons! Aloha & A HUI HOU!

UPDATE: Second time around with Mickey and we still just absolutely love him! Yes, he's still a great surf instructor; so knowledgeable, patient, and encouraging. Yes, he still gives you great footage. But most importantly of all, he's good people! You feel how much he cares about you and it's such a great time just hanging out! A hui hou... Aloha Ohana!

We took lessons with another popular surf shop but didn't get the detail, attention, and patience that Mickey gave us. And his prices are awesome! The night before he even took the time to get us prepared to surf with some videos and tips for technique. He really cares about having us learn the fundamentals so that we can be ready to practice on our own after. Fun quotes: "Paddle like a cheetah, not a kangaroo." "You have to see the wave before you can catch it." "LOOK UP!!" Overall it was one of the best experiences we had in Hawaii. Plus no one takes videos like Mickey! Mickey is fantastic! My two brothers and I booked a 90 min lesson a few days in advance, and the experience was one of the best parts of our trip! Mickey is friendly, encouraging, gives good, clear instructions, and made the whole experience super fun. This was the first surf lesson for my brothers, and with Mickey's assistance, guidance, and then eventually on their own, they were standing up and riding waves. Mahalo, Mickey!

I'm super glad we did our research and chose Mickey's surf school! Communication: After we requested a booking on his website, Mickey responded within an hour and we were confirmed for the date and time that we wanted. He was clear in messaging the time, meetup location, & pricing! Surfing lesson: The surfing lesson was super fun! Mickey let us try standing up on the board while we were on land before heading out to the waters. He explained how to position our bodies, where to look, and also provided guidance when we were surfing. He even gave us a little push/momentum while the waves were coming, and timed when we should stand up to catch the wave! Also when we fell he'd give us tips on what to correct :) Hospitality: Mickey's such a friendly and funny person! We had as much fun as we did because he was generous with his time and tips. The class did not feel rushed and we had ample time to surf. He made us feel welcome and comfortable, and even gave us tips for other places to visit on the island. Will definitely come back the next time I'm in Hawaii!

We just finished lessons with Mickey today and it was one of the best experiences. He was very supportive, friendly, fun, and educational. He taught us so much and provided a once in a life time experience. It was great having his one on one support and his local perspectives. Also, he provides awesome videos and pictures with his lessons. I definitely recommend taking lessons with him, we are so grateful for the experience he provided!

Micah was amazing... Patient, took the time to explain different techniques, and a true surfer at heart. We were referred to Mickey's from a colleague who described him as the best instructed in Waikiki. Hands down... It's the truth. There were 5 people in our group and he had a friend (Sparky) help out. We all got personal attention and most of us were able to get up without assistance/direction by the end of the lesson (I'm not one of those). We come to Honolulu every other year and will definitely set another lesson with Micah. Thanks for the great day and getting my daughter into wanting to try more surfing when we get back home to LA!
