Land & Water Instruction
Family surf lessons are designed to let parents and children learn together in a safe, supportive environment. Instruction begins on land to establish comfort and communication, then continues in the water with close guidance so each family member progresses at their own pace.
Learn Together on Land
Families start on land at Waikiki Beach, where parents and children learn stance, balance, and board basics together before entering the water, building confidence and trust from the start.
Perfect for All Ages
Land drills are adapted for different ages and abilities, helping kids and adults practice pop-ups, foot placement, and balance in a way that feels approachable rather than overwhelming.
A Guide at Every Step
Families are not simply pushed into waves. Mickey stays close in the water, offering live guidance while helping parents and children ride waves safely and comfortably side by side.
Individual Growth
As the lesson progresses, each family member gains independence at their own pace, allowing kids to feel supported while parents see real improvement and shared accomplishment.

Surf Lessons FAQ
Family surf lessons raise different questions than standard lessons, especially when kids and adults are learning together. This FAQ explains how family surf lessons in Waikiki are structured, how Micah adjusts pacing for mixed ages, what safety and supervision look like in the water, and what to expect so your family can choose the right option and arrive confident and prepared.
A family surf lesson is a private session for your household, typically parents and kids learning together with Micah. The lesson is paced for mixed ages and focuses on safety, confidence, and getting everyone real rides, even if family members start at different skill levels.
Yes. Families often learn together. Micah adjusts instruction so adults get clear technique coaching while kids get simpler cues and extra supervision. If someone needs a slower pace, the lesson can be structured so nobody feels rushed or left behind.
Very young kids can participate. For small children, Micah may have them surf together with him on the same board instead of putting them on their own board right away. The approach depends on size, comfort in the water, and how they respond at the shoreline.
Most family lessons are taught at Canoes because it is typically the most forgiving and beginner friendly area in Waikiki. Conditions matter, so Micah may choose a nearby spot if it is safer or smoother that day, but the goal is always calm water and manageable waves for kids and parents.
You do not need to be a competitive swimmer, but basic comfort in the ocean helps. Micah keeps lessons in appropriate depth and uses beginner boards for stability. If someone in your family is very nervous, mention it in advance so the lesson can start more conservatively.
Bring swimwear, towels, water, and sunscreen. If your kids prefer extra sun coverage, bring long sleeve sun shirts. Surfboards and core lesson gear are provided.
